Starting in Autumn/Winter 2024 we’re kicking off a fantastic series designed to ignite your curiosity, spark new ideas, and inspire action. 

Every other Monday, you can expect a 45-minute episode packed with thought-provoking themes and extraordinary guests who will share their insights and stories.

Episode 1 – Cultivating Curiosity 

Our first episode dives into “Cultivating Curiosity” – exploring how practitioners can create environments that foster professional curiosity. Joining us will be the brilliant Jordon Makmihe, Sophie Penketh, and Charles Carew from Wandsworth Children’s Services!

Episode 2 – Communicate or Communi-can’t?  

Our second episode explores having difficult conversations with families. Tim Hillier (MET Police), Nathan Walsh (Wandsworth Children’s Services) and staff from Victoria Drive Primary PRU discuss the key challenges professionals face communicating with families, particularly in situations involving child protection or early intervention.  

Episode 3 – Resilient Voices: A Young Persons Story of Survival   

Our host (and WSCP business manager) Kam McCalman speaks to Lamees and Cairon about their experiences and what being resilient means to them. Cairon explores his experience as a care experienced child and young person in Wandsworth. Lamees joins the conversation as one of our WSCP Young Scrutineers. We would like to thank both Cairon and Lamees for their time and contribution to this podcast episode!

Episode 7 – Safer Sleep 

Promoting Safer Sleep for Babies and Young Children
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) remains the leading cause of injury-related death in infancy. In response to recent Local Child Safeguarding Practice Review (LCSPR) findings and the Regulation 28 Report, the WSCP has partnered with health professionals to lead a powerful podcast discussion on safer sleep practices.

Facilitated by WSCP Service Manager Kamilah McCalman, this conversation brings together expert insight and lived experience:

  • Dr Lin Graham-Ray, Consultant Nurse for Children
  • Hannah Wallace, Infant Sleep Consultant
  • George Alderman, bereaved father sharing his son’s story
Together, they explore the latest safer sleep guidance, practical tips for families, and the support available to reduce the risk of SIDS and promote informed, safe environments for babies and young children.

Episode 8 – Baby LA Teams Meeting

The Wandsworth Safeguarding Children’s Partnership continues to review and explore when a child or young person dies, or is seriously injured or abused.  This practice is referred to as Local Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews.  This learning reflects and establishes learning for agencies and professionals to improve the way that we work together to safeguarding children ( Working Together 2023).  We seek ways to reduce the risk of recurrence of similar incidents by identifying and sharing key lessons and themes, locally as well as nationally”.
